My paintings take viewers on a narrative journey through vast distorted lands in search of a place to call home. I use cartoon-like illustrations and whimsical perspectives to sensitize my audience to taste sweet memories of a dreamy nostalgia. With broad brushstrokes and formal design elements, I merge the deceptively surreal with bold funk-art elements to create moments of laughter and play in an otherwise lonely world.
In response to my own challenges to find a stable foundation to grow, I use my work to tell struggles of loss, housing insecurity, and community. These works explore the human experience of coping through humor and tender moments shared by life on a radically changing planet. With a background in arts education and non-profit arts organizations, I have found immense value in accessible learning opportunities, and use this knowledge to implement simplistic elements in my work as a way of communicating the foundations of art and design to curious minds.
